Why some people never get sick

Ever wonder why some people have all the immune luck?

Have you ever noticed that there are some people out there who just never get sick?  No matter what they are exposed to, or how much they’re running themselves ragged?  I know those people, too, and I have secretly (and not so secretly) wanted to be one of them.

But I have a secret of my own, and I’m going to share it with you today.

You CAN be one of those people.

We’re autoimmune overachievers, so our immune system just doesn’t know when to quit.  And that’s not a good thing, as you know.  But keeping yourself well goes beyond your immune system.  It comes from a foundation of good health and nourishment.

Most likely, you neglected your health foundation at some point along the way, which is how your autoimmune disease came into being. Not everyone is like this, but most people are.  Most of us can point to an event or a period in their life when everything started to go downhill.

The secret to not getting sick isn’t stocking up on echinacea and astragalus.  It isn’t in hiding away all winter and bathing in hand sanitizer.  The secret is in having a solid foundation so the occasional virus or bacterial attacks have nowhere to go.  Making sure you have sufficient nutrients – just for fun, enter a day’s diet at nutritiondata.self.com to see how your diet stacks up.  This is also a great way to see what nutrients you should be supplementing.  Refer back to my article about cold and flu season for some other ideas on nutrients for sick-season.

In addition to eating a nutritious diet, you also need adequate rest.  It may look like those amazing people are busy all the time, but they’re not.  An exhausted body is a prime target for an infection.  Somewhere, somehow, they’re getting enough rest.  Autoimmune overachievers tend to put off rest so they can get ‘just one more thing’ done before sleep.  Try just letting that one thing go and get to bed instead.  It seems counterintuitive, but the energy you’ll have from being well will give you the ability to get more done in a day.

Finally, you need to nourish yourself emotionally and spiritually.  Get out in nature.  Go for a walk.  Read a book for entertainment.  Spend time laughing.  These seem trivial and unimportant, but your body is a whole and complete being – not just a shell.  Nourish it all and you’ll reap amazing benefits.

Now you know the secret.  It's not a magic pill, and it may not be what you wanted to hear, but isn’t it good to know that you CAN have the health you want if you’re willing to take the extra step?
